How to Know God:

Big X

Sin

Everyone has sinned.  We all have chosen to disobey God, we’ve chosen to rebel against Him.

Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Separation

Separation

Our sin has put a separation between us and God.  Sin keeps us from a relationship with a perfect God.

Isaiah 59:2 – “But your iniquities [sin] have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”

Cross

Jesus Sent

However, in spite of our failures, God wants to have a personal relationship with us.  This is why God sent His Son, Jesus, into this world to pay for our sins on the cross

Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Gift

Substitution Made

By taking our punishment as a substitute, Jesus offers a free gift to all who will put their faith, their trust in Him.

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus our Lord.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Receiving Gift

Free Gift Offered

Just knowing that a gift exists doesn’t mean that you receive the gift.  In order to receive the gift you have to personally accept it.  Each of us has to acknowledge we’re sinners and ask God to forgive us of our sin and place our faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9 – “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

John 3:15-18 – “So that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.  For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.  He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Prayer

Accept that Gift

If you would like to accept that free gift, here’s something that you might pray to God.

Dear God,

I know that my sin has put a barrier between You and me.  Thank you for sending Your Son, Jesus, to die in my place for my sins.  I trust in Jesus alone to forgive my sins, and I accept Jesus’ free gift of eternal life.  I ask Jesus to be my personal Savior and the Lord of my life.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
