What We Believe

God

WE BELIEVE that there is one living and true God who exists eternally in three persons:  The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Each is equal in power and glory.  God created everything, keeps everything going, and rules everything.

The Bible

WE BELIEVE that the Bible is the Word of God, the sole authority for life and faith.  The original writings were without error.  We believe it has the power to change lives when people are exposed to and respond to its message.

God the Father

WE BELIEVE in God the Father who is perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love.  He mercifully concerns Himself in the lives of men.  Everyone who comes to Him in faith through Jesus Christ, He will save from sin and eternal death.

Jesus Christ

WE BELIEVE Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, is fully God and became fully man, lived a sinless life, died in our place as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose bodily from the grave, and ascended to heaven to the right hand of God the Father where He intercedes for believers.  We also believe that He will literally return to earth one day.  He is our Wonderful Master, Savior, and Friend.

Holy Spirit

WE BELIEVE the Holy Spirit of God convinces unbelievers of their need for salvation.  He also lives in all believers to teach, guide, comfort, empower, and gift them in their walk with and service for God.

Man

WE BELIEVE that God created man in His own image.  Man is God’s crowning work in creation.  However, because of the sin of Adam, the first man, all people are sinners separated from God and in need of salvation. 

Salvation

WE BELIEVE salvation is a gift received through repentance from sin and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe that every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in Christ.

Church

WE BELIEVE a church is a local gathering of the family of God made up of baptized believers who together follow the teachings of the Bible, led by the head of the church, Jesus Christ.  We believe Jesus gave us two practices for the church:

• Baptism – We believe baptism is an act of obedience by those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, demonstrating outwardly what happened in their life when they surrendered to Christ.  We also believe that the biblical pattern for baptism is immersion in water.
• The Lord’s Supper – We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a reminder of the person and work of Jesus.  At Calvary, the Lord’s Supper is open to all believers

Resurrection & Eternal Life

WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ and that one day everyone will also be raised.  We believe that those who die with their sins forgiven through Jesus Christ will spend eternity with God in heaven and that those persons who die in their sins without Christ will spend eternity separated from God in hell.  Therefore, we make it our endeavor to share with every person how they can have eternal life in Christ.
